DIY shipyard

Image
For some reason I spent more time worrying about how to build a shipyard than building new Frigates for the Karma Navy! I had for a long time a simple 18"x 24" hardboard painted up blue with a simple port to act as a home for the KDF. Grandiose plans for a architectural masterpiece never came to pass and it sat away for years. So I put a self imposed timeline on a new shipyard in one corner 6 1/2" x 8 1/2" and the FSC (Future Surface Combatant) program was born. A new modern ship for the KDF and a kick start on the old port. The land base is a bit of left over peel and stick vinyl flooring. Cut easy to shape, painted with cheap hobby store paint and stuck down, Base colour around the edge was for roadways and covered with thin cut strips of tape. Then over painted for grass or concrete. There idea for the design is steel in, ships out. This comes from the Australian Osborne Shipyard. Replace Oz with Karma   Next came some small buildings, most I had on hand but som...

New Frigate joins the Karma Navy.

Today is an important day for the KDF Navy. The first of a new class of warship is being commissioned as the Future Surface Combatant. With many invited guests on hand this is the first homegrown product of the newly expanded and modernised government shipyard. A little over a year late, the much needed ships are to replace the old Halifax class one for one. KNS Stampede will head the new class.  The new ship and shipyard will give the Karma Government an independent Naval industrial base of production. As the ship is accepted and taken on strength of the KDF Navy, the drinks flow in the red and white marquee dockside.     At the same time the second ship of the class (KNS Airdrie) is floated out of the dock soon to join the fleet. Behind in the background, the finishing touches are underway on the third hull (KNS Beaumont). Work goes on 7 days a week in the assembly buildings to try to bring the project back on schedule.

Winter exercise ends

Image
The major yearly Winter exercise has come to a close. This year was a lower key affair than normal with just units from the Northland Reg't and local based reserves taking part. Some of this was in part due to the continuing re-equipment of many KDF formations and the need to conduct their own training to reach IOC (Initial operating capability). Others have said it was also to keep regional tensions down as the conflicts with the ROD, New Canada and the EE edged into the Pacific area. Troops from the 1st BN Northland Reg't along with two MGS from the Northland Dragoons cover a locating radar.

Navy News

Leased submarines to be returned the EE. The KDF Navy has suffered a major setback with it's submarine force due to the ongoing conflict between the ROD and EE (Evil Empire, run by the ROD as an opposition Country). Karmanaskis had signed a contract to lease two nuclear submarines for the next 8 years from the EE, we had planned to build several of the type. However with the EE missile attacks on the ROD mainland and the sinking of civilian shipping by the EE, the contracts are now null and void. The two leased subs will be returned to the EE but not while the conflict is ongoing. Trade and diplomacy with the EE will continue but there is now no cooperation on military matters. This is seen as major problem for the Navy. Plan B is now underway but it is now clear that the KDF will not deploy a nuclear powered sub. A new much larger AIP class is most likely. One prototype of a new design was built two years ago as a technology demonstrator. A Government announcement is ex...

Welcome to the home of the Karmanaskis blog.  A fictitious Imagi-Nation that was, inspired and encouraged by discussions, rantings and ramblings on the forum of the GHQ website. It is intended to be a peaceful and prosperous Nation that never sees a war game table. War being the physical proof of failed diplomacy, foreign policy and leadership. Here I can play armchair General and build the defence forces the way I want with an eclectic mix of equipment and organisation.  Karmanaskis is a peaceful Nation on the Pacific coast, North of RPNW and South of New Canada. An independent nonaligned Country that will always be run in a defensive chill manner. Karma today. The Army is conducting winter training in the mountains around the Columbia Icefield. This area is just South of our border with New Canada to the North. The Northland Regiment is responsible for operations in the region and is equipped for the terrain.  Units will be added to the KDF tab over the following w...
